Development of financial literacy in children and young adults without family and social background.
Who are we and what do we do?
The civic association EFC plus was founded for the purpose of increasing the level of financial literacy in our society in Slovakia and in the world. Financial education in the world is often conditioned by a high price for studies. However, it is precisely the people who cannot afford to pay this price that financial education can significantly help to get out of the circle of poverty, lack and incorrect financial decisions in life.
HOW DO WE HELP?
😇 We educate children in orphanages about the world of money
- We witness the difficult life stories of children and adults from orphanages, who are threatened with financial problems or fraud from their immediate family, threats from loan sharks or human traffickers.
- Financial education for life has multiple meanings for them and a huge impact on their life in adulthood.
- The financial education program for these children is adapted by a team of special educators so that they acquire all the necessary competencies to start a dignified and independent life.

You, too, can significantly help them achieve financial stability and successful integration into society. Thanks to quality education, children from orphanages become successful doctors, lawyers, IT developers or artists who are a huge benefit to society.
The children of the orphanage would very much like to learn about finances in 2023. However, they need your help. Preparing for education, creating presentations, producing videos and worksheets requires the loving time and energy of our educators. However, face-to-face teaching with modern technologies and a sensitive approach has its unmistakable benefits.

Creating an e-learning class in an orphanage
so that other children living in professional families can also join the education
💚 Cooperation with the children's charity home St. Lujza in Nitra
Our professional pedagogue Petra regularly meets with the children in the home, where she guides them in topics such as income, budget planning, work and employment, credit and debt, savings, investing and insurance.
We emphasize the prevention of financial fraud and deception, knowledge of one’s human and civil rights, advertising tricks and lures of financial sharks with the aim of recognizing them and averting unpleasant consequences.
Since September 2022, children and teenagers have created a close and friendly relationship with the lecturer Petra. They try not to miss a single meeting because in the classes they discover the world of finance in the form of interactive games, videos, puzzles and guided communication, where everyone is equal and every opinion is respected.
Children’s natural interest in financial education with EFC Plus is also proven by the fact that they sacrificed their weekends and learn about money every Saturday.

👉🏼 Who are we?
EFC – Financial Education Center Plus is a civil association, where we organize various forms of financial education for minorities such as children from socially disadvantaged families, minority communities, people in need, refugees. Financial literacy courses are in Slovak or English. As a reaction to the war conflict in Ukraine 🇺🇦, we are also preparing lecturers with native Ukrainian language.
👉🏼 Where and how?
We provide financial education either in person or in person in our classroom in Nitra or Exit – we will come to our trainees at the location that suits them best. If there are possibilities on both sides, we also train online via our digital learning platform.
👉🏼 What is the content material of EFC Plus?
We have developed the EFC Plus financial education content material together with professional teachers and parents based on the National Standard of Financial Literacy ver.1.2. However, our educational programs in many ways exceed national standards. Financial Literacy Education is focused on interactive and engaged learning with over 90 educational videos and 400 online financial-themed activities, exercises and games.

- Personal and family management
- Planning, reception and work
- Tax and levy system
- Consumer decision-making and management
- Functions of banks and non-bank entities, credit and debt
- Saving and investing, simple and compound interest
- Risk management and insurance principles
- Consumer rights, unfair commercial practices,
- Ethical behavior, corruption and its impact on society
- The influence of the Internet, advertising, false news and hoaxes
- History and development of money, modern payment methods
Since we teach children already from the age of 8 years as well as the whole families, our courses are adapted in their content, language and graphics so that our students have fun while learning. In addition to financial knowledge, they will also acquire a positive attitude towards education itself and towards money.

EFC Plus o.z. it works thanks to financial contributions and grants from public and private entities. These are people and institutions who wish that their financial funds were used specifically to increase financial literacy in our society in Slovakia and in Europe.
